Teaching + Coaching
Right now, I primarily work 1:1 with writers who are interested in developing their essays or memoir for possible publication, submission of a book proposal or book to get an agent, or in preparation for admission to a nonfiction MFA program. Some of the folks I’ve worked with have been published in places like the Washington Post, the New York Times, Parents, The Rumpus, Kenyon Review, and elsewhere, and have received offers of admission to places like the University of Iowa, University of Arizona, University of Minnesota, The Ohio State University, University of Pittsburgh, Hollins, Columbia University, and other programs. I’ve also spent several seasons as a mentor in the AWP Writer to Writer program, and most recently was the 2024 Storozynski Residential Writing Fellow at the Reilly Center for the University of Notre Dame. I have also taught at StoryStudio Chicago. Previously, I taught writing and composition at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to coming to Pittsburgh, I tutored students individually and ran community workshops in the Chicago area. Here’s a selection of some of the classes I taught at Pitt:- Seminar in Composition: Forms of the Essay
- Seminar in Composition: The Medical Humanities
- Introduction to Nonfiction and Journalism: How to be a writer
